Are you suffering with pain that seems to have no rhyme or reason to exist? Were you ever in a car accident? Have you ever fallen from a height? Have you ever been injured? Do you ever feel panic stricken for no reason. If you answer yes to any of these questions, please read further.

First of all, every symptom that exists in your body, whether physical or emotional has basis in reality. If you answered “yes” to any of the preceding questions, there lies the basis of reality for your present day symptoms. “But I recovered from that years ago”, you say. “I’ve been in therapy for that and I have learned to cope with my feelings “, you say. All of what you say is true. Your body parts have healed; you do have better coping skills from all of the therapy.

“Why then do I still suffer so many years later?” IT’S ABOUT TIME. If you are still suffering years later , then your body or mind is stuck in time warp. Every cell in your body has the ability to store memory of events past. If you can remember it, then it is stored not only in your brain , but in every cell that was involved in the event. For example, you were in a car accident and experienced all of these symptoms: fear/panic/shock occurring at impact, tension in your neck and shoulders, a feeling of disorientation, lower back pain, left hip/leg pain. All of these sensations are in your memory, and can be recalled given the correct stimulus. Unfortunately , the correct stimulus doesn’t have to be another car accident. It could be anything that impresses you similarly to the car accident. For example, witnessing a real car accident or one on TV; or practicing a new dance step where you come down heavily on your left leg; or being frightened by anything; or having a rough day at work causing your shoulders to tighten. Any of these could reactivate your car accident symptoms like a reflex. The more intense your memory of the event, the more likely you are to experience reflexive symptomatology.

What can you do about it? First you need the awareness that you are still being “run” by the event. When you are being “run “ by the event, the symptoms will return just like a knee jerk reaction; there is nothing you can do to keep them away. However, you can receive therapy which can convert the reflexive nature of your symptoms to symptoms you can control. One such therapy is the style of chiropractic that I practice. It is called B.E.S.T chiropractic which is an acronym for Bio Energetic Syncronization Technique. This technique is especially useful for chronic problems. All chronic problems are either a result of this type of situation or of not addressing the problem when it is acute. Any acute problem that has an emotional component to it is more likely to become chronic if the caregiver does not address the emotional component simultaneously.

This technique was developed by M. T. Morter, D. C. about 30 years ago. He set out to understand why some of his patients improved from visit to visit and others didn’t. As do many chiropractors, one of his criteria for adjusting is checking leg length both face up and face down. Typically , before the adjustment, the legs appear to be uneven face up, face down, or both. When the spine is properly aligned, the legs even out. Dr. Morter ran the following experiment. At the end of the adjustment, he checked leg length and the legs were even in length. Then he asked the patient to get up, walk around the room and lie back down again for a second leg check. For those patients who improved from visit to visit, the legs remained even on the second check. For those that spoke of no improvement, the legs were uneven again on the second check. This was a consistent finding.

What this means is that the moment the latter patients stood up, the misalignments returned ; it was just a matter of time before the symptoms would also return. He also discovered that for this group, the entrance complaint was chronic pain or an exacerbation of a chronic problem. Dr. Morter postulated that for these patients, their misalignment patterns were due to past events instead of a present event, and for some reason, standing up reactivated old memory patterns. He set out to develop a technique that could address chronic pain (memory driven misalignments) more effectively. And so the B.E.S.T. chiropractic technique was developed. If this fits your situation, why not do something about it?
